In the last month or so Dave and I have been availing ourselves of the services of Grays Online Auctions and getting bottles of red that usually retail for $20-40 for between $5-12 delivered.
If you're really keen they're flogging bottles of Grange every now and then but it's still in the $3-600 range. Out of my league, but there are some bloody good bargains to be had if you have a sniff about.
I got some cleanskins of Pemberton Shiraz (Margaret River) today that will cost about $4.50 landed. At that price I don't mind if it's crap and it's still probably better than marinating the steak with Jacob's Creek.

I figure if I can reduce the booze budget I can re-allocate it to the tonewood budget and still maintain the same levels of insobriety

It's worth a look if you want to get a bit of wine down for a cellar without breaking the bank.
