.
Thanks Nick, me used a 1/2 inch tap and die.

Yo, kiwigeo, thank you for saying so, but gee dude it wern't much more than drilling a bunch of holes, tapping them and then running a die cutter on some dowel...like its really a no brainer and a days work all total, if that.

Next me wanna run a batch of this type...but not today.

Fifteen clamps a day is not bad, indeed! I would have to work more than one day for earning enough to buy fifteen of the commercial equivalents...

I like your wood threaded tools. Cool stuff. 8)

What are these clamps called? Do you have to turn both knobs to work them?

Looks good Padma. They're like the ones we had in woodwork shop back in high school, but those ones had steel threaded rods.

I keep thinking I should build a bunch of those cam clamps in different sizes, but the time to do so always seems to allude me. I've got 8 rather large ones that I bought a few years ago, and they took some work on my part to make them functional. I think I could do a much better job first off, and some really small ones would be oh so handy.

If you need to clamp hard and the weight of the clamp can be an issue a small piece of carbon fibre bar (those normally used and/or sold for neck reinforcements) is a good choice. Workability of those carbon fibre bars is excellent and they don't cost much as one doesn't need huge lengths.

When Duh Padma clamps are smaller & made of metal they are known as Toolmakers clamps, I had to make a couple of sets when doing my training at night school. The spindle near the front does the first bit of clamping (but not strong enough to 'really' clamp things because of the handle size) then you tighten the rear spindle & due to the leverage ratio it clamps as tight as a fish's non return valve. The design allows great clamping pressure by only using finger tightness, I've used then my whole career and swear by the things, they don't 'displace' the parts as you tighten.

As far as I know Pad it's a Kiwi thing, I've worked in engineering shops all my life & if you want to pick up 'different' terminology then rough engineers are the guys to teach you.
Fish's non-return valve = A fish's arsehole (ass hole for our northern cousins  ) , the crap gets out but don't let water back in therefore that's gotta be tight!

Think you are targeting the wrong market there Martin, try S&M shops.

Technically building a guitar is alot like S and M. There's a whole lot of pain and suffering but most of us enjoy it
