As Martin said, Duh Padma Clamps or also parallel clamps.liam_fnq wrote:What are these clamps called?

Made with typical Swiss precision by the looks too! Nice job Markuskiwigeo wrote:Oh those Swiss!!!!!
When Duh Padma clamps are smaller & made of metal they are known as Toolmakers clamps, I had to make a couple of sets when doing my training at night school. The spindle near the front does the first bit of clamping (but not strong enough to 'really' clamp things because of the handle size) then you tighten the rear spindle & due to the leverage ratio it clamps as tight as a fish's non return valve. The design allows great clamping pressure by only using finger tightness, I've used then my whole career and swear by the things, they don't 'displace' the parts as you tighten.liam_fng wrote:What are these clamps called? If you need to clamp hard and the weight of the clamp can be an issue a small piece of carbon fibre bar (those normally used and/or sold for neck reinforcements) is a good choice. Workability of those carbon fibre bars is excellent and they don't cost much as one doesn't need huge lengths.
As far as I know Pad it's a Kiwi thing, I've worked in engineering shops all my life & if you want to pick up 'different' terminology then rough engineers are the guys to teach you.duh Padma wrote:Ummm Nick,
Whats a "fish's non return valve"? Is that an Australian kinda thing?
Curious minds wanna know, ya know.

Can't argue with that reasoningkiwigeo wrote:Technically building a guitar is alot like S and M. There's a whole lot of pain and suffering but most of us enjoy it
