Soprano Uke

Post by Bob Connor » Sat Aug 02, 2008 6:42 pm

I've been fiddling around with a soprano uke.

We've got heaps of orphan sides and backs (inevitable if you do any re-sawing) which are all uke size and we also use one piece neck blanks for our guitar necks so there's always a big lump left in the middle. These now get turned into Mando or Uke necks.

Here's a few pics.

Note the forward shifted, hemi-parabolically scalloped pre-war inspired bracing.

Highly customised glueing jig.

I found the plans for this on Christophe Grellier's website. They are free and there are also plans in .PDF and .DXF format for an OM, OO and L-OO
and very nicely drawn.

The link is here.

Man, your starting to freak me out Bob. I stumbled on that site on Thursday, and downloaded those plans. Was thinking about doing a uke as well after hearing how great Alan's turned out.

Yours it looking tops.

Bob,

That's cool. Is it just the photos perspective but that neck/fingerboard looks huge compared with the uke top.

Christophe has a great site. I used his Weiss tutorial a lot when I made my first one. He also has an archtop making tutorial on there.
