guys, I'm lurking, but been very busy at work, also i'm making a bunch of picture frames (20-30) for my wife's painting show in October. The workshop is a mess! I hate mitre corners and thank the Lord for V nails!
I have been held up with the bass because I couldn't decide what to put on the label. Really.
But now that's sorted, I'm fitting the neck now and I reckon I might even get the top on THIS WEEK.
Nah I'm dreaming.
Cheers

Matthew - re labels,
Well Ive Chosen "Make Mine Fifths" because its so easy to say after a couple of Coopers. When you write it up calligraphcally it has eight strokes......., same as the eight strings of mandos etc.
How about "Big, Blonde and Beautiful Basses", I know, Im a sucker for punnishment...... or your name and number along with "for a plucking good time...."

Well, after eons of hesitation and mind-changes, I decided the name of this bass model will be "Castelvecchio" after a lovely little ancient village in Abruzzo at the foot of Mt Sirente. It suits this bass model quite nicely.

As far as my bass business(?) well I had a dream last night that I had a shop called Les Contrebasses de la Bresque. Bresque basses. I think it has potential. The Bresque is a small trout-laden river in the Var in France, I spent 6 months living in a house overlooking it in the late '80s.
Why no Australian names? Well, somehow, I don't seem to have the same connection to places or intensity of memory about my life in Australia. There is no place here that really feels like "home", though I lived most of my life in Sydney. My folks are in Tasmania and I was brought up there, and before that in England. I don't understand why I don't have the same connection to things. Yet I am happy to live here and proud to be Australian.
Perhaps it's because those places are remote now that I feel I need to reconnect somehow. Inneresting.
