New guinea rosewood finger board and bridge
New guinea rosewood finger board and bridge
Hi I'm new here and I was wondering if anyone has used new guinea rosewood for a fret board or bridge before? It seems like it could be a great option provided you use a slightly harder then average piece. Anyone have any experience??

Re: New guinea rosewood finger board and bridge
A number of classical guitar builders in the modern Smallman style use NG Rosewood bridges. I don't know of any use as a fingerboard material. The large pores of the wood might be a drawback

Thanks for the reply mate. I should of been more specific I was talking more steelstring guitars. Probably a silly question but in what sence is the open pores a possible drawback ?
Re: New guinea rosewood finger board and bridge
Dirt and grim will get stuck in the pores and make the board look, well dirty.

Makes very nice bodies and necks, but I'd never entertain the idea to use it as a fret board on a steel string guitar.

I guess bits will vary but the stuff i have seen would be way too soft for a fret board. There are a lot better timbers for those in Ozland.

I have used it for both bridges and fretboards and it has worked perfectly fine. The pores are similar to Indian rosewood so no big difference there.

No way I would use such a soft timber on a structural item such as a fingerboard.
It’s asking for too much trouble,
Not only will it be too soft and make the guitar neck like rubber, but I also would assume it to have trouble holding the frets in long term.
