Re: 00 Acoustic build thread.
Yeah that’s what I meant, thanks.
Good articles. after seeing that barrel bolt one I’m sold. Would never use the other kind that go straight into the end grain...
Also I’m about to order a hotrod trussrod from stewmac as I hear their straight forward to use.
Anyone had issues with them?

The stone is hard and the drop is small but a hole is made by the constant fall.

Re: 00 Acoustic build thread.
The hotrod truss rods seem well regarded. Lots of people use them. The ones from Allied have been very popular also. A few years ago a group of ANZLF folks did a group buy of Allied rods, and I am still using the ones I got then. With StewMac it is not really worth the shipping cost to get one or two pieces. It would be a good idea to put together a full shopping list. And the thread up at the moment about Elmer Guitar looks like it has StewMac clone tools (but not your truss rod) at very good prices.

Re: 00 Acoustic build thread.
Bit of an update so far.
Bought some evo gold fretwire, some titebond 1,
Bone blanks and a few other bits and pieces, so should be moving a little quicker now...
Fretboard is slotted and tapered.
20 frets, 14 to body, and 633mm scale.
I scribed the spacings to nearest 0.1mm.
No issues save fret 10 being a whisker out of square. Sides have been radiused on the back as well as the arm bevel shaped in.
Headblock, tailblock, and back kerfing glued in before radiusing again. Initially I wanted Mulga headplates, bindings etc.
But that didn’t work out so I’m using Jarrah instead as I’ve got a heap of old floorboard. Has nice enough grain. Sitca Spruce bracing progressing also.

Re: 00 Acoustic build thread.
I have built a few OM guitars and a couple of Loo's with 25ft top and 12ft back. They sound nice with strong mids and a tight bass. However, I have had comments from a couple of luthiers who say that the more arched soundboards loose a little sustain? I haven't tried other arching so I wouldn't know, I have concentrated my efforts into a completely different style of soundboard. Cheers Ross

Re: 00 Acoustic build thread.
Thanks Ross,
The plan suggests 25’ top and 15’ back.
I made my dish with the online calculator @25’
which I’m using for both top and back.

Re: 00 Acoustic build thread.
Use a 12 or 15 ft dish for the back in my opinion...I have made some excellent guitars (IMOP) using 25 ft and 12 ft, mainly OM's to the Grellier plan with my own bracing mods, ie forward shifted bracing and a modified X. But they don't sound like Martin clones, heaps of guitars around with that sound!...cheers! Ross

Re: 00 Acoustic build thread.
Joseph, I recall posting some radius curve .pdf files on this forum a while back. I may still have them on my computer so if you want them pm me and I'll have a look. Just print them out at Officeworks same size then trace to make a routing sled for the dishes.

PM sent. I have also posted these pdf's in the jigs and fixtures page (here as well) for others to use. Cheers! Ross

Re: 00 Acoustic build thread.
Hi all,
Sorry for the lack of progress lately, life gets in the way over Christmas....
Anyway I’m back into it now doing work on the fretboard every night.
Hope to get the back braced on the weekend,
and the arm bevel block glued in. Joseph

Re: 00 Acoustic build thread.
More progress on the fretboard.
Jarrah bindings and Mulga inlay at the 12th fret.
Was planning on doing just two dots but I messed up a hole... I like it better with the inlay anyhow.
Met up with some Albany luthiers today to put the frets in, Evo Gold.

Back bracing.
Just waiting on the humidity before I can go any further on it. Rim assembly coming together slowly also.

Nice work Joseph. Yup it has been humid down South lately.

Re: 00 Acoustic build thread.
Great work Joseph, very neat and tidy. The Grellier plans work a treat. Just finished the Grellier OM as a cutaway for my Son-in-law who absolutely loves it. The boys down Albany are really helpful. Pete and Maurice are real gentlemen. Could not have built my guitar without their help.

Re: 00 Acoustic build thread.
Thanks for the encouragement guys.
Yeah the guys in Albany have been very generous and helpful...between them, the forum, and Pinterest it might even look alright when done
