The forum has been unavailable

Post by Bob Connor » Tue Jul 01, 2008 7:04 pm

We've had some storms and high winds here of late so the power keeps on going off which has caused the forum to be unavailable.

For anyone new here, the server that the forum runs off lives under my desk at home.

If the house power goes off so does the forum.

You may have noticed that it has been slow the last week as well.

If the kids download too many movies and too much music It throws us over the monthly limit and the connection gets capped back to 64K.

Cheers

Bob

I'm on the same monthly plan Bob mate. I usually have a couple GB left over at the end of the month. I'm too busy to spend much time downloading crap these days.

If any clever net heads out there can come up with a way for me to share some bandwidth with you at the end of each month, I'd be happy to do it.

I can totally sympathize. When my kids discovered that they could download US TV shows before they were shown here, it consumed my entire monthly download allowance in the first week and I couldn't work out what was happening until I rang the ISP. I upped the plan and they pay the difference!

I think we discussed this before and I would happily kick in a few $$ a month to prevent the download demon from slowing up the forum (though that wouldn't control the weather). Whaddeyer all reckon?

Up to Bob,

But I reckon you lot should be paying me for putting up with some of the corny jokes around this place, oh, wait a minute, there my corny jokes. :(

Anyhow, the up side of paying a contribution is that should I manage to injure myself whilst typing, it will give me someone to sue so I'm in

Cheers

I'm happy to contribute to keep the forum running to its optimum level.

Nearly all other forums take donations also and I'm a firm believer of donating in support of those which provide you with a wealth of material, lutherie or bad jokes.
I don't know too much about forum bandwith, moderating and admin, but I'm sure these things all cost something.

cheers, Stu

AKA 'The perpetual moderator' (one who spends so much time moderating their own behaviour they negate the viability of their membership) but I still charge like a wounded bull :D

Not having a good run here are we. :D

My cable provider has been down since late last night. Probably due to another night of high winds here in Geelong

They usually rectify problems by 9am the next day.
