RIP Gillian
I have just heard that the great hammer dulcimer maker Gillian Alcock has passed. She was one of my greatest and longest friends, an inspiration when I first started making mandolins. I have one of her dulcimers and it is one very fine instrument. Gillian has been battling MS for many years, and what she described as "a bugger of a disease" got her in the end. Cardiac arrest is apparently one thing that is of high risk for MS suffferers. RIP Gillian, we had so much fun playing music together.

Here she is at the 2011 National Folk Festival, before she retired.

Re: RIP Gillian
Sad news Peter. Thanks for passing it on.
I only met Gillian the once, but she and her instruments were well known and respected in Australia.
One of only a handful of Hammered Dulcimer (and related Cymbalom family) makers in this country, as far as I know.
RIP Gillian. Sorry for the loss.
Regards,
Jeremy.
