Router Table and Router
My old jig to router out a channel for neck truss rod has become inoperative and I am now considering to either make or purchase a bench type router table. Carbatec has some new models available. On their website I was interested in their Carbatec 'Compact Router Table Kit with Cast Iron Top', Cost $729.00 or, maybe consider a similar Carbatec model with a MDF Top, cost $579.00.
I be interested in your comments and recommendations regarding purchasing a new router table and router suitable for guitar building applications.

I splashed out on a Unilift router lifter and then made up my own table...not hard to do. Routing truss rod channels is just so much easier on a table.

Re: Router Table and Router
Before I had a CNC I did all my truss rod slots on an old dewalt router table, it was free and did the job nicely.
If that’s all you’re using it for you don’t need to spend big bucks.

Carbatec use to have a nice stand alone router table, I just looked the site up and unfortunately not available any more.
Good table

For what it’s worth I bought this router table. It’s very small and quite useful.

This is all U.K. based but I would be surprised if it weren’t available worldwide.
Perfect for a small workshop.

I have a mate that bought one of these as it also has the router included. Said he's pretty impressed with it for the price.

Are you using that machine for doing truss rod slots? That table looks a bit on the short side.

Re: Router Table and Router
Thanks all for your helpful comments. I went to Carbatec today and after viewing the Compact Router Table, I decided to purchase the larger table size model RT-M810 (MDF top version) $799.00. I also purchase the Triton 2400W Dual Mode Precision Router. In the future if I get tired of bending under the router table to make changes I will swap the plate with a lift type when funds are available.

Re: Router Table and Router
with the triton, it should have a winder mechanism built in, simply drill a hole through the bench top to access it

Re: Router Table and Router
Thanks Steve, I've just opened the Router Box and found the winder.
I have assembled the router table frame and fastened the table top. I am now ready to position the winder hole location in the aluminium plate for the router and then continue on with the final assembly.
Looking forward to making the router table and router work together for guitar building applications plus other type of home projects.

Re: Router Table and Router
To be fair I haven't yet, I've always done mine with a router and a jig. There isn't any reason why it wouldn't to a great job though.kiwigeo wrote: ↑Wed Sep 19, 2018 8:41 amAre you using that machine for doing truss rod slots? That table looks a bit on the short side.

If I'm honest I have little need for a Router Table but this one was so, I don't know, cute, that I just had to have it! That's tools for you though isn't it, every time I go to the store and look at Veritas tools I have to buy one, half of them have never been used in the field of battle!

Re: Router Table and Router
I use a portable router table: https://www.rockler.com/trim-router-table with a Makita Rt701 laminate trimmer (1/4").
I do not have/do not feel the need of any other fixed router set-up.
This was purchased online in Australia for something less than 100$ but I do not actually remember which website it was.
cheers Valter
