Genius again Steve.
I always radius and flatten my fretboards when they are glued in place. Your method would still allow this to happen.

Re: The 5 minute fretboard
Thnx Steve. How do u do the final taper?
I use my saw bench and keep nudging till i get to my pencil line!! Accurate enough but terribly inefficient and not the approach of a craftsman!

Re: The 5 minute fretboard
Apologies - by taper I mean, 1-11/16" at nut end and 2-1/8" at the 12th fret.
Re: The 5 minute fretboard
Awesome,
I attach it to the neck its going onto with a couple of 1mm drill bits, then using a razor blade, I trace the neck shape out from underneath onto the fretboard, then I belt sand it up to the line, refit the fretboard and then i tweak final dimensions with some sandpaper attached to a flat stone, my flat stone is a 1metre by 1 metre 100mm thick granite block

You must have some pretty ripped biceps there! Probably only on one arm like a Venetian gondolier!my flat stone is a 1metre by 1 metre 100mm thick granite block

Re: The 5 minute fretboard
Ok - so u and others shape neck before gluing fingerboard. The books i learned from attach fb first then carve neck. So now i have to consider benefits of change of approach!!
Thnx.
Thnx.
Re: The 5 minute fretboard
No need for you to change your approach, you forget, I replace fret boards on guitars that are already finished, that is they are painted / lacqered and so forth
Guitars that I build, I definetly shape them on the neck as well
