Quiet in here
Quiet in here
Bldi quiet in here of late. What's everyone up to?
I've spent most of today spent sorting 50 Indian Rosewood back and side sets.......over the years the sides and backs got mixed up and there were a few orphaned sets lurking around as well. Have also been working on the Commission OM and (re-) French Polishing a falcate braced classical and a Parlour.

Re: Quiet in here
As below I'm trying to finish spraying nitrocellulose on a falcate braced steel string and getting very frustrated. Despite going through Allen's tutorial I still don't really have a clue and I am getting desperate to put some strings on!
Think I can get another coat on tonight.
Cheers Dave

Re: Quiet in here
I've been, and still am, building a highchair for my recently born Grandson (the first of many,a wishful thinking wife tells me) using all the old Rimu bookcases and bench units the Department were just going throw out into a wastetaker. Haven't had much time for loofery things of late!

Re: Quiet in here
I'm finishing up my tropical island adventure on Sunday, back in Godzone next week. I didn't make any New Years resolutions but if I had, one of them would be to finish at least two of the unfinished guitar projects, a steel string and a tele, both still in bits in the shed.
Which seems to have accumulated an inordinate amount of s**t and needs a clear out.
Then I want to get back into Trevor's book and set myself up for Falcate number 1.
And starting on finishing the lute is in there somewhere...
That should do for this year

In LA, post NAMM.
NAMM is crazy. Huge! 6 halls, each the size or two football fields (maybe more). 100,000 people over four days. Lots of famous faces. Picked up some great contacts.
Every guitar maker should visit at least once.

Re: Quiet in here
Stinkin hot here and no rain! Not good for gluing.
I have just carried out a makeover on my Son's dready as it needed a neck re-set but we won't say why or where it had been left to cause such an issue! There is an OM and a 018 ready for the box to be closed. No neck sessions on these two yet as I have just laminated there neck blanks. Wait now for them to settle and after the wet season is gone if we get one. All Koa Parlour guitar ready for sanding and finish. Wrong weather for that job as well. Also getting together materials for two Thinline Tele builds in the future. Just need to find some 40 mm Queensland Maple or Mahogany for the bodies.
Cheers

3 builds on the go, all on hold - as Al (Ozziebluesman) justed noted, it's 33C with humidity between 70 and 80 % here in Townsville. Not a breath of wind.

Re: Quiet in here
I've got 2 tenor cutaway ukes on the go, 1 with figured gidgee b/s and Huon top ( from Jeremy ) and 1 with figured Padauk b/s and bearclaw sikta top ( from Tim ). They'll be put on hold for a week or so, today I had a biopsy on my right eye that's been playing up for 9 months, 4 brain scans and about 9 blood tests and the doctors at the eye and ear hospital still don't know what I've got. Pics aren't all that nice and I know, and I've been told I could have smiled, but I didn't feel like it haha.

Re: Quiet in here
I look pretty miserable Al but I'm not really. The eye is giving me grief I just hope they sort it out for me, I'm going to the right place. Worst part is the double vision, the more swollen it is the worse it is. Any way there's a lot of people out there that are worse off than me, so I can live with it if I have too. It's not stopping me from building guitars ( first question I asked them is it related to building and should I stop, got a no answer so I was pretty happy ).

Re: Quiet in here
A Tiger Myrtle neck and body , never seen that before Bob , Nice !
Best wishes with the health issues guys . I know what its like believe me !
I was walking around the bush late last year and got a tiny scratch on the back of my leg , Ive had hundreds just the same from around the workshop, but this one felt real hot like a burn after a day. I was looking for it when taking a shower but couldn't see it.It put me in hospital for a week with cellulitis . Felt like I was dying before the antibiotics. Fk I was sick!! lower leg Blew up Red and patchy.
I'm having a big move before I build no 2
. I still love checking in reading here but the last few years hasn't been easy to make a buck from furniture . No time for guitars , just the overheads .
We are selling up in the city and buying the farm down in Sth Gippsland .
A small farm , 134 acres but enough to get a little income from some cows . And plenty of space for a new woodwork workshop . No more city workshop overheads , beach and lots of forest nearby, not far from Port Welshpool.
Ive been doing big loads with a ute and tandem trailer just for the house clean up . Next will be the workshop and house move at the same time . A huge amount of work for a lifestyle change Ive always wanted.
