Hare and Forbes T-13S Thicknesser

Hare and Forbes have a sale on this weekend so I thought it opportune to throw up some pics of what the T-13S Thicknesser can do. If you sign up for their newsletter you can get $50 off so this ended up costing roughly $630 plus $25 delivery to Geelong.

It's got a helical cutter head that has 26 HSS inserts but can also be fitted with Carbide inserts for around $90 per 10.

I got this earlier in the week. Rod Octigan also bought one so I'd be interested to see how he's faring with it.

I ran a piece of Celery top through first just to get a feel for the machine. No figure in this so it went through as you'd expect.

Next I tried some highly figured Blackwood. The first time I ran it through their was some chip out but I found if you run it through taking only a minimum off each time that it doesn't chip out even highly figured stuff like this.

Very impressed with the new piece of kit.

looks like you did well with that purchase.

Spiral cutters really do make a massive difference. Also much, much quieter as well.

Still will get a bit of tear out but not as much. Certainly no replacement for a drum sander, but I am very glad I upgraded my jointer to the spiral heads.

I don't have any pics of ridiculously figured Blackwood but i can say that I'm very impressed with the machine, value for money is exceptional.
I put some 10x2s of Blackwood and Chinese elm through and both came out very nicely dressed/accurately uniform, didn't slow or strain with these hard timbers at all, quite surprised at the speed the timbers fed in.
Time will tell ,as with any purchase, but I'm happy at the moment!
