Pick Guard material

Hi Folks,

I need to make a pick guard - tiger myrtle preferred for matching.

I have been given some lovely veneer but its less that 1mm thick - probably around 0.7mm.
Would this be suitable?

Secondly....... the top is finished with Danish Oil. One recommendation to secure the pick guard was to use double sided tape. That bothers me a little - not sure why?
Any advice?

I make my wood scratch plates at about 1.0 - 1.2 thick.

Secured with StewMacs double sided tape. It's very thin and clear.

If you want it a bit thicker you could glue a veneer under it Pat.

Here are a couple of scratch plates I did. They are around 1.5 to 2.0 mm thick
I just used double sided tape. Dreadnaught is true oil finish ... Wando is nitro finish. No problems so far.

wondering what you guys feel is the best double sided tape? Also, how about putting a layer of the thin clear stick on pickguard material on top of the veneer?

Not sure on the veneer question. If you are thinking to overlay the guard? I think you may have problems with a clean edge.

Yes that's the tape I use. Regarding the "Clean edge" I have found that to be the case with the clear pickguard material, and am working on ways to get the clean edge somehow. The other idea I have is to use a two pack epoxy, casting resin or two pack varnish of some sort.
