Bridge Pin reamer (3 Degree) - Where to buy cheap?
Bridge Pin reamer (3 Degree) - Where to buy cheap?
I'm searching for somewhere I can buy a affordable 3 degree reamer cheap.
I should add that I'm looking for one that will fit into a machine collet and not a handheld one.
Any suggestions?

Do you have a lathe, pretty easy thing to make up, because its cleaning / cutting wood you would not need to do any heat treating either

No lathe. I'm pretty light on metal working equipment.

My suggestion: Get a manual reamer and take it to a machine shop. Ask them to remove the wooden handle
and grind flats on the metal part so that it can be mounted in a drill.

Cheap: Supposedly, the tang of a typical file is usable as a pin hole reamer. May need to sharpen the edges a bit... with another file.

I used cut nails when I started out
get a larger one then grind to fit a drill the unit worked like a scraper and did fine for my first 10 guitars.

The wooden handles on the LMI/Stewmac reamers are held on with a small steel pin that can easily be tapped out. Works fine in a drill then, and it's reversible should you want/need to go back to handheld.
Not cheap but easily obtained if you're placing an order anytime soon. And great quality... I've had the same set for 150-odd guitars.

I got a cheap hand held one from McJing in Sydney. You may be able to adapt one of these. Here's the link.

Thanks for the replies, I've worked out a way I can get a accurate taper using a 3mm ball nose end mill on the cnc, so it looks like I won't be needing the reamer after all. Less clutter the better.

In CAD and CAM I have, but my CNC has been down for over a week now due to sending back one of the control cards for an upgrade, so I haven't had the chance to test it.
Before that it was a wait on a 3mm ballnose bit to arrive, which came as a 3.2mm bit, which I emailed the supplier who's response was "prove it", to which I replied with a photo of digital caliper a around the bit and I've yet to receive a response. Gotta love the Chinese, you get what you pay for.
Sometime this week I should be able to have another look at this.
