Uke bracing

Concert and tenor uke's on the way. Pretty much following the hana lima plans but always mindful of going light over heavy. (& not referring to frothies)
Their plans don't trim down the sides of the braces to reduce mass.
Should I?

The Hana Lima plans don't mention thinning periphery of the top but I did it anyway. Bearing in the mind the small total area of the lower bout of the uke I'm not certain how effective this thinning process is in freeing up the top. Allan is the "ukepert" and no doubt will impart some words of wisdom on the subject.

I would trim the sides on the braces a bit Frank. It's not going to effect the overall stiffness of the brace by much, but will certainly reduce the weight some.

When I shape braces, it's always to a rough shape similar to the triangle you have. Then alternating between taking it off the sides and off the top until it feels right.
