Installing binding on an oiled guitar?
Ok, just hit me, the next bass I want to build has binding AND will have an oiled finish too. So, when do I install the binding? Is there anything I need to be aware off?

Plastic or timber binding?slowlearner wrote:Ok, just hit me, the next bass I want to build has binding AND will have an oiled finish too. So, when do I install the binding? Is there anything I need to be aware off?
I've used oil over timber binding, it's not an issue.
I could imagine some oils could look not very nice over plastic binding, I'd suggest some test pieces first.

Same as for any other kind of finish. You install the bindings to the unfinished guitar, level, scrape and sand, then put the finish of your choice over the whole shebang.

Thanks. Is there a specific sort of glue I should use to resist the oil affecting adhesion?

Oiling AFTER you have glued on the binding will not be harmful to the normal glues
