Scrap wood bass - build No.8

Just finished this bass. Build out of scrap, recycled, left over or throw away timber.

Top/headstock face; Silky oak scrap. Was a nasty piece of warped board.
Core; recycled kauri pine. Old sundayschool bench.
Back; Mango. 2 panels from old desk.
Neck; Vic ash/ red maple pinstripe/ Vic ash. Trapezoidal profile. Bolt on.
Board; crappy Vic ash panel from bunnings.
Scale; 31-33" multiscale.
Hardware; Wilkinson MM6 PU, Wilkinson sealed archtop tuners, Chinese individual bridges.
Finish; hand rubbed oil. Boiled linseed/gloss estapol/turps mixture (Thanks Bill P).





















Balanced well and plays nice. Just a little fettling to do and it's near done.

Thanks guys. Yeah GregL, the bass has a zero fret. First time I've done it and I like it I think.

Great job Pete Not bad for what would be scrap timber otherwise. Love the sound, mind you I've always got excited by cutting, edgy bass (Rickenbacker 4001 fan here! ). Are you sure you got that neck fixed on securely enough though?

I love the idea of reusing timber and using up "scraps". What a great outcome! Sounds great, reminiscent of some Leo Kottke in the chordal range. Nice clear separation of notes in the chords too. Well done.
