Relief for Mac users (I think!)
Joe Wolfe at UNSW has a downloadable sig gen for Macs on this page.
Apparently one for Windows is coming soon. It looks like you can sweep the frequency manually at the press of a mouse button, and set the the increment, which is where most similar apps have problems.
I haven't tested it, because I don't have a Mac, but if the Mac users would be so kind and get back it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for this. Looks very simple, just what I (we) need..... except I'm on windows. I can wait for the Windows version of the Sinegenx, but what sweepable tone generators for Windows might be available now. I have NCH Tone Generator, but it was a trial version and expired. Before I buy it ($30 for the light version). I've been wondering what else is out there, so this thread comes just at the right time. Searches have not turned up much.

Hi Trevor,
dont have a real set up to test and play - but do have plenty of Mac's. Downloaded said program and had a go with built in speakers only.
Seems to work just fine. You can set the start and finish frequencies and step interval you which to increase or decrease by. Click up or down and away it goes (.... or just slide things around to make a fun but probably annoying first-gen synthesiser noise
)

Thanks, Kevin.
What's the smallest increment you can input when you're working a manual sweep?

0.01 is the smallest.
There is no automatic sweep.

Thanks Edzard and welcome. 0.01Hz should be plenty of resolution.

Trevor, do you have any info on the program author? Am wondering if the SINEGENX source code is available? Would like to extend the program to use a USB PowerMate knob/button to sweeep frequency (https://griffintechnology.com/us/powermate).
From the About section of the program: Author: J R Smith – ACUSTRIX – 15/10/2009 (1.21)
Google searching doesn't turn up any leads.
Thanks.

J R Smith (John) is a guy who (used) to work with Prof. Joe Wolfe at the University of New South Wales. John may well have retired but whether he has or not, he still has an email address and phone number at the university. Another way to try to contact him would be through Joe at the UNSW as Joe, at least, is still on staff.
If he lets you do a mod for a Windows version, I think lots of people would be interested!
For those who haven't come across Joe, he has lots of interesting stuff on the UNSW Musical Acoustics site.
