Maton Baroque

Post by needsmorecowbel » Sun Jun 02, 2013 9:35 pm

I Got an email today from a friend of a friend who is looking to get some work done on a 1960s Maton Baroque...

Doesn't even look like the guitar was finished to start with...note the large 'gash' on the left hand side and the extra cuts in the fretboard at the second and sixth fret (also the lack of finish and sanding). It is located in North East Suburbs of Melb any suggestions for a fairly local luthier (VIC) would be much appreciated. I can put you in contact with the friend if you are interested in undertaking the repairs/ restoration. PM me for details

Cheers for looking,

Looks like a giant rat has been chewing on one side of the body of the thing.

Yeah definitely looks like a fixerupper. It is apparently a legit early Maton. My theory is someone working at the maton factory took it home after it got damaged at the factory before being completed...But I can only go off these two pictures and I know very little about Matons...However enough to know this is an odd Maton if it is in fact legitimate

Built by someone with a penchant for Hofner a la Beatles basses?

You could also try Sandy Richards in Ballarat.

Authorised repairer of Maton guitars and I have seen him bring things worse than that back to life.

Anyone that calls me looking for repairs I send to Sandy.
