Blue Mountains Folk Festival

Post by sebastiaan56 » Sun Mar 16, 2008 5:32 am

What a day! We went to the Blue mountains Folk Festival yesterday, had a ball. Warm, sunny, Guinness, great food and of course music.

Highlights - Jake Shimabukuro. He played Tenor Uke and his repetoire, virtuosity and presence were truly outstanding. His version of While my Guitar Gently Weeps brought the house down. He handled Over the Rainbow as a jazz standard, amazing! Our family favourite.

Genticorum - From Quebec. Stomping, bouncing, celtic fun. Fab vocal work. They had a great sense of humour on stage. Close family second.

Clarke’s Gray Vest - from WA. A really nice F4 mando with Cello and some blitzkreig guitar playing.

Kora player Mamadou Diabate, Kora is such an evocative sound. I thoroughly enjoyed his playing but Im sure I missed the subtleties.

Kate Miller-Heidke - we only caught the end of her set, she has a lot of promise, lots of stage presence, humour in her songs.

But, at a family spend of over $400 for the day, definitely an annual treat!

Woah! That's steep! But it sounds like a good time!
