Huon Pine Weissenborn
Everything is Huon Pine - braces, linings, bridge and fingerboard (not to mention back, sides, top and headstock)
The purflings are Blackwood. The bridge plate is Honduran Rosewood and there is some carbon fibre epoxied to the A-brace.
I built this more as an ornament or piece of art but it sounds surprisingly good. it certainly wouldn't hold up to the rigours of touring or gigging considering the softness of the timber but you'd definitely record with it.
A big thanks to Kim Strode for providing the fingerboard and bridge

Well ain't she a pretty blonde!
The fingerboard & headstock especially, look fantastic. Is that a Jeff Yoong style leaf inlay on the back of the neck?

That's a great looking blonde and the all-the-same-wood concept really makes visually pop out the headplate/fingerboard/bridge - combo!

I've just noticed
that you use an interesting string wrap around the tuner post Bob, your thoughts behind it as opposed to the 'normal' (one wrap above, one below the string tail) wrap?

That's gotta be one of the prettiest Weissenborns I've ever seen Bob. An art piece it is, and if it sound good enough to record with it, then you hit the mark on both fronts.
Re: Huon Pine Weissenborn
That's really nice Bob, love the headstock and fretboard as well.

I just hook the string under itself so that when you tighten it, it locks against the tuning post.Nick wrote:I've just noticedthat you use an interesting string wrap around the tuner post Bob, your thoughts behind it as opposed to the 'normal' (one wrap above, one below the string tail) wrap?
No need for multiple wraps around the post and it's very quick to do string changes mid gig.

I just love these blonde instruments ,but this one takes the cake ! That's some beautifully grained Huon Bob . You're going to be kept busy at Port Fairy as this one is bound to get a heap of attention .
I like the look of those Gold tuners against the Huon . What are they ?
Top work as usual Bob

Re: Huon Pine Weissenborn
They're Grovers Craig.
Don't usually use them but they got ordered in at the local music shop by someone who didn't pick them up.
I got 'em for $80 but they're usually $130 full freight. Bit rich though when you can get Gotoh 510's at around $70 from Stewmac.
