Well i have this flat top in for a new nut and a fret dress and a few other little jobs, all done all nice plays well, just waiting for the customer to pick it up and i've noticed that the bridge is lifting up from the rear , i believe this is a common problem with older flat tops,, to me though this is fairly excessive as it is opening up the centre join. What are the best options here? is it bridge off and fit new bridge plate or is there a less troublesome remedy for this problem?
Cheers,,

Rod.

I'm actually looking at the centre seam on that top....something doesn't look right about it.

That centre joint looks like it has come apart some time ago from the amount of crud in it

If it has you'll need to remove the bridge, splice a piece of spruce into the joint and refinish the top.

Not probably what you want to hear.

I'm wondering if this has been left in a car on a hot day. There may be other glue joints inside the box that have given way and caused the excessive bellying and lifting bridge.

Whichever I'd be giving the inside of that instrument a very careful examination.

Very difficult to say though without eyeballing it.

Regards
Bob, Geelong

You need to remove bridge / reflatten the top / and then fit a new bridge or repair the old one

I've had several of those come across the bench.

Take a very careful look inside, as almost all the ones I've had, the x-braces and tone bars had let go a little to a lot. On one I got all the top back to where it needed, and strung it up, only to hear buzzing. Found that two of the back braces had let go in places as well.
