Humidity...

Post by Rob the luthier » Fri Feb 01, 2013 3:28 am

Hi all,
Im sitting bored waiting on lacquer drying and suddenly it popped into my head, where in Australia has the best overall conditions for guitar building, my guess would be western Australia but thats just because i read about it having a mediteranian climate... Im currently in the north east of Scotland next to the sea and the conditions are fairly even all year round unless it snows... Sorry for daft questions but damn im bored... :?

Hi Rob....we were in drought 2 weeks ago and now the tanks and dams are full and its 75%+ humidity...East coast drenched from ex-tropical cyclone Oswald! really the only way to do it with any level of certainty is to have a dry room with a dehumidifier in it. I can keep 45% easily with my setup of a small dehumidifier in a sectioned off and sealed area of my workshop with my go bar deck and benches and tonewood storage area.

Hi Rob, I used to live in Aderdour as a wee laddy
Here it's been over 70 rh for over a month except on the 40 degree days so a dehumidifier is a must.

Well, living in the tropics seems to be a bit better place than much the rest of Australia this year. It's certainly the driest wet season I've experienced here. I think we've really only had about 100 mm so far and we should we swimming in it. Actually having to water the lawns and gardens in January - February. The peak of the wet season.

But it's pretty bloody hot and humidity is all over the place. From mid 40's to mid 90's. Couldn't pick it from day to day.
