For twenty five years I have made do with the disc sanding side of my belt/disc sander. Back in the day I had converted the small original disc to a 300mm diameter one, but it never had provision for a dust outlet and the attempts I made to get one that worked ended up looking like spaghetti, see early photo.
So when I saw a 300mm disc sander in the Carba-tec catalogue at a good price I ordered it and it arrived yesterday.
My problem was where to put it, and after a beer less thinking session [first thing this morning] I had it sussed.
I took off the disc from the belt sander and the crappy dust extraction system and played with positioning the belt and disc machines on the same bench [imagine/think playing chess with two sanding machines and a sanding jig]. Anyway in the end it all fitted on the same bench and I got rid of a crap load of ducting, bends and gates, and dust could now be a thing of the past, I’ve just got to make the effort to switch the fan on.
I think it’s a great machine for the money and the belt sander on its own runs faster now, and I haven’t got the noise of two machines when using only one.
I done my first job [sanding ten neck scarf joints ready for gluing] everyone was perfect……now it’s time for a beer.
The way it was...

Very clever as per usual Taffy but don't hold back mate, what are the details of the contraption you've jigged up between the two sanding machines??

Great solution Taffy!
Kim, I think this is just the table where Taffy puts his beer on for the beer less thinking sessions.

Re: new machine and MORE space???????
HI Kim,
The jig in question is one I think we all have, a small thicknesser that works of the end of the belt sander, for doing pegheads and braces too if one wanted to. It’s just stored in the photo above.
I have had to locate it but the first pic shows the way it was among the spaghetti.
I have removed the windy wheel assembly [that raised the table] and will use the rise and fall of the belt sander itself, by adjusting the height of the support post arrowed in the other pic.
in it's new position

Your right Taffy, I think most of us have that fixture on our belt sanders...should have picked it, but nice job on the reorganisation all the same.
