Resonator binding

Post by DaveW » Fri Dec 21, 2012 7:52 pm

Hi Guys
one of the projects Ive been working on is a resonator for my son
Ive attached a picture as Im just up to the binding stage
my question is that I have some rope binding purchased of LMII I believe ,which is quite wide and it has black on oneside and white on the other
if I let it hang out and glue it with CA will I be able to scrape either the white or the black off and it will hold together so that all you see is the rope
I thought I had read somewhere you and do this, but as usual when I want the info it has dissappeared........probably to the same place my keys and wallet often dissappear to
any input will be appreciated

You could chop a short section off the binding and remove the white or black trim and see if it stays in one piece.

G'day Dave,

I have some rope binding similar to what you have in the pic. The binding I have is made so you glue it in and leave it proud just enough so you can scrape the white part off leaving the rope design. I think the purpose of the white is to hold the binding together until it is glued in.

Cheers

You pick the color that you want to keep and that goes to the inside. I had a batch of rope made up with Koa on one side and Black on the other. I've used it both ways depending on what look I was going for. When I use it on Koa ukes, the Koa strip virtually disappears.

Without the laminate on either side, the binding is going to fall apart and you will be left glueing it in place in pieces.

The more you round over the binding, the more it looks like rope.
