Most of the guitars are advertised as "unplayed". What sort of tosser buys a guitar and then doesn't play the thing :?

This will be good to watch. I don't follow this sort of thing but it looks like he's using the exey PRSs to sell the Fenders and Gibsons.

It's probably the husband/partner's collection, he's just ridden off into the sunset on his panhead with a new tattooed biker mole who can spit cherry pips 50 feet whilst downing a handle of Bud & arm wrestling two arnie look alikes, this woman's just selling his collection for payback.
Some very nice looking PRS's there but 15 grand U.S for one of them!!!? Geez, I gotta start making "limited editions".

Yeah 15 grand for what is effectively a factory made guitar.

I once had a guitar collector, that doesn't play at all, want to custom order one of my instruments. He had an extensive PRS collection already. I pointed out that my marketting is all about people using my guitars... one sells another. He told me to charge him more to make up for that. In the end I declined the order, as I'd already exceeded my maximum waiting list.

But, who cares if someone has a collection of guitars/cars/records/wine/whatever, that they dont use. It's wood and wire. I have insane collections of things that make me feel good, give me something to strive to complete, and are absolutely worthless (but cost a fortune) to anyone other than me. I meet people all the time, that are mad guitar fans, and love beautiful timbers. It's art. To others, it's a tool. I have a tool collection of antique planes I don't use. What's the difference? We all have bookcases full of books that aren't ever going to be read again...

I'd much rather look at a stunning guitar hanging on the wall as an art piece, than a grandfather clock... even if it is more useful by being a 'time piece'.

I completely agree.
I would love to have a collection of fine guitars that I just look at while I play a beaten up old thing.

I personally collect (not very seriously) coins. They are great as they take up next to no space and are always at least worth what you paid for them (and easily sold off).

If this guy was in Aus I would think it was a SMSF being sold off to support his retirement.

Will.

One that they have listed (an acoustic) for 14,999 is currently available new on a dealer site for 9,500.
Nice little margin if you can swing it.
I just googled the title "Prs 25th Anniversary Tonare Grand Acoustic Limited Brazilian/Madagascar EMMA"

Just how "limited" it was I couldn't figure out - seems to be in production still.

Actually I just notice that he has two of these for sale.

I think the term 'limited' is used for marketing purposes when you want to add two extra zero's before the decimal point on the price tag. It would appear it doesn't refer neccessarily to the numbers produced  .
PRS makes some very nice guitars but when even, what I would call, their 'journeyman' model is a couple of grand dearer than competitors I do wonder if that is true added value for quality/tone or just wank factor.

I can drool over a nice brazilian rosewood neck as much as the next guy but apart from that this entire collection does almost nothing for me. OTT figured tops, tacky inlays and 'limited editions ' or autographs and name drops..

I'm sure they all looked amazing hanging in her humidity controlled baseball card/guitar vault, just a shame that she probably never let anyone in there to even look at them let alone touch/play them if her descriptions of 'unplayed' guitars are honest.

Possibly an 'investment collector' who got all caught up in the guitar boom (nuclear boom) and now looking to get some cash back out of it after all the miillionaire businessmen have locked all the real vintage guitars in their vaults indefinitely and killed the market again?

The reality is, with PRS guitars, that if they have a single pick mark/scratch/ding/dent/etc, the value is halved. Personally, I don't feel an afinity with a guitar I can't pick up and play for fear of destroying it's collector's value. My favourite guitars are those that have come by the "relic"--bloody hate that word--honestly and not thru a few belt sanders and chains in the Fender Factory....

Can't remember who it was here that worked on an old tele that had been thru the ringer, but that's the one I'd want :)
I wish I was half the man my dog thinks I am....

Cheers,
Nick

...it seems that she has sold a few looking at her feedback although on all of them she accepted an offer...

...she has also listed some new ones of which this one seems to be the most expensive....http://www.ebay.com/itm/Prs-Dragon-2000 ... 4abe6fa69a

...I wonder how many she has???
