Fine 0000 grade Steel Wool in Sydney?
This question has probably been asked before, but I was just wondering where I would be able to buy 0000 grade steel wool in Sydney (preferably the Northern Beaches area). The local Bunnings doesn't seem to source it. Where do you guys purchase you fine steel wool for finishing?
Re: Fine 0000 grade Steel Wool in Sydney?
That's weird, it's stocked in at least 3 local (QLD) bunnings stores that I know of...? Surely they have the same suppliers as NSW?

Bunnies here in NZ too (along with a few furniture restoration outfits), Maybe they're out of stock, did you ask an "assistant"?
Oh & welcome to the forum too, maybe a brief intro ?

I've seen it in Bunnies Belrose. That doesn't mean they have it today, though...

They would have directed you to the nearest knitting shop...

Reminds me of the time I asked a Bunnings assistant where the honing guides were. He directed me to a large shelf of DIY guides.

The trip wasnt a total waste of time...there's always a sausage stand outside Bunnings stores so I managed to get myself a nice sanger sandwich and get myself covered in tomato sauce.

The 0000 steel wool that bunnies and many other hardwares (Home Hardware etc) sell is Sifa brand. At least, that's the most common variety available. It's ok... Until you try something like Liberon 0000 steel wool.
Seriously, the difference is stark. Liberon stuff is like cotton wool it is so soft and fine. Makes the Sifa feel harsh.
Carba-Tec sell it now, as do several other online shops. Do a search and get some sent out.
Jeremy.

Bunnies stock the Briwax brand of products on this side of the Tassy, not much help to the OP but nice to know we got one up on you!J.F. Yeah, I only asked the assistant and it was on a busy day. She wasn't a real hope and was more of a person to point in the general direction on the other side of the store... In terms of introduction, I guess I'm more of a amateur/hobby builder of mainly solid mahogany ukuleles, who'll hopefully be soon to be sold at a local "up market" surf store.

+1 on the Liberon, great stuff.
I had excessive trouble with the finish of one of my builds - turned out to be the oils in the brand of steel wool I was using - a Home Depot purchase of some sort. Liberon either has no oils or very very little.

I've seen some at Masters, they have a couple of brands in stock.
Also saw Titebond there for $4.80

It will be in the paint section at Bunnings, where the sandpaper is kept. Usually on the bottom shelf...
ATM, there is only one Masters store in Sydney, which is the Narellan one (Gregory Hills, if you want to be picky).
