I would concur, not to use the silicon additive, it will not only contaminate every spray job you do, it will piss every person off there after that may have to do a repair on the guitar. (Yes that would include me)
Do you have a water trap on your spray line, spraying is very easy when you know the basics and adhere to the basics. Not having a water / oil seperator is a bad start to any paint job.

I haven't used a HVLP turbine unit, but just based on my reading, I didn't think there was any place to insert such a trap in the same way as on a conventional compressor and hose system. None of the turbine systems I've seen would use a oil and water trap.
I was referring to a conventional compressor system that should have both installed.
