Hi Guys,
I'm John in Melbourne.
I'm learning how to build a guitar, hence me being on this great forum.
I've been reading and learning on & off for months. Thanks for all the great info.

Welcome to the forum John & remember, there are no silly questions only silly answers (most of them coming from me! ) so feel free to ask away as you build your first & remember to post pics as you go, we do love a good photo journal :D . Even if some of those pictures are of a mistake you might make (and how you go about fixing it) as it's all good learning material for any new builders coming along behind you!

Welcome to the forum John. Questions are always good and we like ones that will get a discussion going between the members.

And if you go into your preferences for the forum software, you can add a signature to your posts that will show up automatically. That way we can all get to know you better, as some logon names are pretty cryptic.

Thanks for the friendly responses guys. Much appreciated.
I'm in the Melbourne Eastern suburbs.

This is my new hobby.
I've spent the last 9 months casually learning by watching youtube tutorials and reading this forum.
I've started from scratch with no tools and knowledge and I have learnt alot thanks to all you guys on this wonderful forum.
I've been very slowly buying and making the various tools and jigs required to do this work.
So far I've practiced on scrap wood making necks and bending sides etc.
I'm waiting on some student-grade spruce wood to build my first acoustic guitar very soon.

I've also purchased the Somogyi & Gore/Gilet books and I'm slowly getting through them too.
The Gore/Gilet Build book has my head spinning from the serious mathematics. Wow.

I'll post pics when I'm into my first build. Cheers guys.

G'day John,

Welcome to the forum.

Look forward to seeing some of your work as you progress.

I was lucky to have gained lots of experience repairing, setting up acoustic and electric guitars for many years. I always thought I would like to have a go and build a guitar one day. I spent two years researching and reading all I could regard building and then jumped in the deep end and had a go. That was in 2005 and now I have number fourteen on the bench.

Hope you enjoy the journey as much as I do!

Cheers

Alan
