I've just booked a trip to visit family in Tassie. I was hoping to also visit a few good timber places. I'm staying in the northwest but will also be in Launceston. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Re: Contact suggestions Tasmania?
Great suggestion Paul.
Gunns Hardware in Launceston usually have some nice Tasmanian timbers for sale in board form.
Quite a few years ago when I lived in Lonnie, Gunns had a specialist wood store called Romcke from which I got hold of a considerable amount of Brazilian Rosewood amongst other exotic species.
You could also try Distinctive Timbers in Devonport. I've been in there a few times and got some nice bits and pieces but the bloke who owns it charges about 4 times as much as you shoud be paying. He will haggle though. Just tell him he's dreaming when he gives you his first price.
Regards

Thanks folks, much appreciated. I'll do some driving around and, where prices are too high, keep the threat of another Kim's arrival in mind.
Kim.

Hi Kim.
You could also try Duncan at Gypsy Timbers - he is up in the north west too.
I have not dealt with him for a few years now (haven't needed to), but he used to carry some very nice material. He preferred to supply in larger quantities though, but that may have changed over the time. A phone call or email may prove worthwhile.
Hope you're taking empty suitcases and plenty of luggage allowance...
Jeremy.
