Racking my wood

Post by Jokidding » Sun Aug 05, 2012 10:28 pm

Hi,
I have been lurking in the forum for over 6 months and have been building furniture for many years.
But I am new to trying to build my first instrument my Dad is a cabinet maker and is helping to resaw my wood so that I can build up stock first to let it dry.
Can anyone help in what is the best way to rack my wood.

Jo

First thing you should work out is how much space the wood will take up....and then multiply that by ten.

Martin is right, you'll need more space than you thought you would. I spent all day racking wood. And I have more to do tomorrow. I won't get another rack built tomorrow it the rain shows up they are forecasting, but we'll see.

Why thank you gentlemen. A girl doesn't always hear such compliments.

I figured this was about the only way I could compete with Martin and Kim. That stack is all seasoned alder. It's great for cooking and for heating. I was told it would be really nice if I'd smoke dinner with some chips next weekend.

I'll have to look at the properties, but I'm thinking I might find some bridge plates in there somewhere.

The guy just showed up with the rest of the 4 cords.

Jokidding, I hope we haven't scared you off. I'm sorry I sent your thread a bit sideways. It's nothing personal, it just happens around here.

Don't forget, as wood storage space gets bigger work space gets smaller. If I remember back correctly Martins bench space was like my small kitchen.
