New Masters store

Post by auscab » Sun Jun 24, 2012 2:20 pm

I went in to the new local Masters store yesterday.
Miles of crap stacked to the roof
Over friendly staff smiling to much

Get to the glue section

Titebond Original $17.80 for 3.7 liters, thinking " sh**t that seems cheap "
the 2 $20.55
3 $30.55
so I bought My first bottle of the original and will try it out on the furniture.

Cheaper than the Sellys PVA as well ,Ive never compared them before but assumed it would be more

It must have been asked a thousand times what people build a guitar with

The 1 2 or 3 ??

I was happy to see this also. It is fresh too, hopefully they sell enough to keep the stuff on the shelves fresh.

I also noticed they sell timbermate grain filler :D .

Rob, I am not familiar with Masters Stores but a quick search reveals that they seem to be the Victorian equivalent of Bunnings? Is that correct?

Hi John,

I think Masters opened to compete with Bunnings. Up here in QLD they seem to open up next door to bunnings. I have 3 Bunnings within 10 KM's of me and only one masters so far :D .

EDIT: Looks like Masters is owned by Woolies and Bunnings by Coles. Like pretty much everything in this country.

This is correct.

Mitre 10 is majority owned by Metcash

If you are going to use Titebond it's the red cap original #1 on instruments. Don't even think of using any of the others!

We are just about to get a Masters opening up some time this year only a block away from our Bunnings. Looking forward to a bit of completion, but I sure wouldn't be happy if I was one of the local hardware stores. Must be hard on them.

It doesn't set particularly hard.

Titebond 1 one is the equivalent of what most factories use.

And it is not water soluble. Titebond III is one of the worst glues when it comes to repairs, although for gluing up marquetry and purflings it is nice (if the dark glue line does not disturb) because in case of later repairs you can take it off in one piece and can be re-used if you used Titebond I or hot hide glue for the rest.

My wife works for woolies in the HR section, they recruit for masters as well as the stores and petrol stations and so forth.

Masters is a woollies owned business brought in to compete with coles bunnings stores

The small hardware stores are gonna hurt, I think the mitre 10 franchise chain and so forth will be a thing of the past

Mitre 10 is now majority owned by Metcash (own IGA) now.....this gives them a fighting chance against Bunnings and Masters as they have access to Metcash supply and management systems.
