Not a bean, mind you, it would seem that I tend to move outside the recognised 'circle' of reputable builders . Christian may have heard more of him? Must admit I'm not sure I liked the 'colour' scheme on that guitar he's displaying but good luck to him, it's not easy making a living from luthiery & even harder in NZ! He'll have to try targeting overseas but the exchange rate is stuffing that up at the moment too!

He mentions doing a guitar making course a few years back. Im wondering if he's talking about Paddy Burgin and Dave Freemans Wellington course.

No offense to the engineers here, but I don't think being an "engineer" is going to allow you to make a good guitar. I think being a good craftsman is going to help you make a good guitar, along with understandin the principles involved, some of which have to do with engineering, and some of which don't...

It is a nice hook line tho.....I'm an engineer, buy my guitar......

He's got cojone's tho, to launch a luthiery in these times....hope the missus has a good job :?
I wish I was half the man my dog thinks I am....

Cheers,

I'll bet all those guitars leaning up against the walls in NZ aren't the $4000.oo + type, you know, the ones you just throw in the corner when you've had enuff!

I thought he might be a former Freeman/Burgin man too, on account of the fact he looks to be building using the method used in Dave's course. His workshop is right around the corner from me. I will have to try and make contact.

I do like the style of his website and the language he uses. Could use a few more product pics though. Good luck to him!

I'd be interested to see how you go Shane. We have one full time Luthier down here in Christchurch (well Lyttleton actually  ) but I'm not sure how he makes a living, I know he does a load of repairs but can't see that putting mutton fat on the table. He must have an understanding rich wife or some other means of topping up the fridge each week. Not alot of muso's around these parts with a spare 2-3K to spend on guitars when a $400 Korean one off the wall surfices.

As I said, Trevor, no offense intended, but there's more to it than that. There's the craft, the dexterity, the eye for detail.......well, you know....

As for Pizza, Mate, if you're in the Byron area, come by Your Italian Kitchen and I'll make you a real Italian pizza.....I'm not one-dimensional, you know.... :git

Havent lived in Wellington but I know it fairly well. My father was born and raised in Hataitai and I spent time living in the Wairarapa (Greytown) as a kid and lived there again for a spell in the mid 80's and worked at the NZGS in Lower Hutt.

I remember a school trip to island Bay one time and marvelled at the rocks encrusted with toilet paper and tampons....it was before they installed the miliscreening plant at the sewerage plant near Island Bay.

Nah, big-ass gas-fired oven....with 3inch thick stones......

Very few places, even in Italy use wood-fired anymore....Who wants to come in a 7am to stoke the fire for dinner?????

Last piece of pizza I ate that I didn't make was at the steps of the Rialto Bridge in Venice.....

If I can blow my own horn--no comments please, Martin--I make a damfine pizza.....

I started my fire here with some Bunya Pine the other night....some tops I got from an unnamed east coast supplier. The stuff was so knotty and twisted there was no other place it belonged than on a fire.
