Destiny Church = Cult
Destiny Church = Cult
I've always maintained this mob have all the halmarks of a cult. This latest edict from "Bishop" Tamaki confirms same. Wonder how many destroyed families it will take before people realise whats really going on.

Re: Destiny Church = Cult
I just slowly shake my head when anything "Destiny" pops up. Classic hallmarks of a cult & self anointed "bishop" Tamaki is asking his flock to give all they can give in order to build the new Destiny village, these are people that work two jobs just to make ends meet in everyday life whilst he has somebody polish his two yachts, ponces around in custom made suits & lives in one of two multi million dollar houses, this religion stuff has been a nice little earner for him. I don't know whether to laugh or cry at his followers for going along with the whole "look after Bishop Tamaki" ethos cos he seems to be the only one gaining out of his church. He's clever though because when asked about the fact that already poor people are being asked to give more he just stated "I've only asked them to give as much as they can spare" knowing full well these people would give everything they have to please him or god.

Yeah......I have really bad feeling about all this. I wonder how many Destiny people have wormed their way into government and other positions of power and influence.

He really believes his own bullshit doesn't he, it probably started off as a scam and now he's on the way to trying to make himself into some kind of king, it'd be a joke if it wasn't so potentially dangerous!

What ever happened to that Zen crowd who used to have a headquarters down Ilam road....they were pretty much a culty crowd back in the 70's and 80's.jeremyb wrote:He really believes his own bullshit doesn't he, it probably started off as a scam and now he's on the way to trying to make himself into some kind of king, it'd be a joke if it wasn't so potentially dangerous!

Never heard anything about that crowd, guess they disappeared peacefully into the karma. I see however, another 'saviour' Bert Potter, got sentenced the other week for all the children he'd had 'unlawful connections' with all in the name of the big fella. Don't think Tamaki is of the same goal, his seems more all about lining his pockets. Think he has a life sized poster of Jim & Tammy Faye on his bedroom wall as inspiration.kiwigeo wrote:What ever happened to that Zen crowd who used to have a headquarters down Ilam road....they were pretty much a culty crowd back in the 70's and 80's.

My first encounter with Destiny church was actually while I was doing a guitar making course at Wellington High School back in 2005. There were all these menacing looking men milling around one of the school buildings...I thought it was a bouncers convention. They were actually the Destiny church heavies getting the building ready for a church service.Nick wrote:Never heard anything about that crowd, guess they disappeared peacefully into the karma. Zen had connections with the old Warners hotel and they also ran a pizza shop on Papanui Road.

Re: Destiny Church = Cult
They seemed to have dropped that image after holding a protest about family values just before the 2008 elections, all walking down the main drag in Wellington dressed in black Tee Shirts & Black Denim jeans & jack boots. They got labelled as black shirts so ever since then I haven't seen too many of them dressed that way, not at public events at least. But "Bishop" Tamaki's 'protectors are certainly big & menacing boys (Not sure why he needs goons around him, I would have thought the 'big' fella would be protecting him....go figure), no wonder there aren't any abstainers when the collection plate gets passed around!kiwigeo wrote:My first encounter with Destiny church was actually while I was doing a guitar making course at Wellington High School back in 2005. Um I think Destiny Church has a bucket rather than a plate...pretty soon theyll have to space the pews further apart so the mini tractor and the collection skip can fit between 'em.Nick wrote:....., no wonder there aren't any abstainers when the collection plate gets passed around!

Honestly, I don't have a lot of compassion for people who get caught up in this stuff. Really, you have to be smart enough to see what's going on, and say "You gotta be kidding." I know these bottom dwellers feed of the unsophisticated and vulnerable, but the ones that join them make that decision themselves....
Anyway, just be glad they're not Scientologists

I notice Tamaki's suits have improved over the years! The rhetoric hasn't improved though.
