Ukulele - using hoop pine for necks?

Hello all, I have just got some old hoop pine recycled from a desk my grandfather gave me. I intend to use some of the better parts for some ukulele tops but wondered if anyone has had experience using hoop pine for neck or brace stock....the legs of this table are quite generous....perhaps 2 neck blanks at least per leg. Would appreciate any advice.

Not used it myself Mark, but I sure would give it a go. They use all sorts of things for uke necks as there just isn't all that much tension on them. If you are worried about it slap a piece of CF rod down the centre of it.

I've used Blackwood, Tas Oak, Kauri Pine, New Guinea Rosewood, Australian Red Cedar and Qld Maple. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to use hoop pine.
