Block Plane
I was wondering / hoping that someone may know something about these little beauties.
My Father bought it for my grandfather about 60 years ago in Sydney.that is all that I know, I find it a very useful tool , but would be interested if anyone knows anything about them.
The Only markings are " British Made " and " S-110"

Can't help with your block plane other than to note that it
looks similar to a Stanley No. 110 that I have.

Re: Block Plane
Not sure what you want to know Tod, other than that it is a copy of the later model Stanley 110. The early Stanley ones had a fancy lever cap then they changed to a plain one that your is a copy of. You can pick up Stanley 110 cheap as chips and they are not regarded as a great block plane because of their lack of adjustment.

Re: Block Plane
Thanks Jim and Bruce, Yes I thought it looked like an early stanley, if it is, and if it's the right model(first 3 years of production ) it apparently would be worth $1000 in this condition, not that I would sell it, but would be interested in knowing.
Thanks Tod

Re: Block Plane
It would be nice to score a rare one Tod but I don't think this is one .
for starters it has British in the casting and I would think an early rare example would not have that because Stanley Planes are USA in origin
You can read a bit here
http://www.hansbrunnertools.gil.com.au/ ... %20110.htm
There will be a better links and pictures to find on the net but this is the best I can come up with ATM.
