Today's newbie question... nylon vs SS tuners?

Hi guys,
I'm building my first nylon string and I have a set of Grover Sta-tite 18:1 tuners for a slotted steel string on hand. Can I use them for nylons strings? I know the classical tuners generally have a plastic sleeve on the peg and I'm wondering why (or if...) I shouldn't use the Grovers for nylon strings??

I use those same tuners for my slot head ukes. They work great on them.

I know a few uke builders who buy them or similar and end up slipping a sleeve over the steel post so it ends up like a classical tuner. Personally I can't see the point as it ends up changing the nice and fine 18:1 gearing to something much less.

If it's a nylon strung guitar and not a "Classical" then I say go for it. If it's a classical then I'd think about the sleeve just to keep people from asking.
