Any recommendations for suppliers of EI Rosewood

Post by Dave Olds » Fri Aug 05, 2011 9:04 am

I am wanting to purchase half a dozen or so sets of AAA or Master grade EIR - and wondered if anyone here had a supplier that they have used, and could recommend.

Price is always an issue, but in this case I am more interested in quality - in particular nice straight grain, as dark as possible, and a good match between back and sides. Stu Mac and LMI are very real possibilities, as I am pretty well assured of quality there, but I wondered if there were other recommendations out there.

Thanks in advance ...

Dave

Probably worth talking to Allied
Tell them what you need, they have big stock.

Must agree with Jeff, Allied Lutherie do seem to move a lot of EIR. I have bought sets of "B" Grade and some mismatched from them when they are clearing out old stock and have been very happy with what I got for the price...which made me think that their A Grade must be exceptional if this is a sample of what they reject.

Cheers

You could also try Scott Wise in WA. He uses the same mills in India as Allied but says he gets better quality. With the group buy for Opp grade wood we did a few years ago, Scott told me he had gone through the piles before Allied got there and had taken anything worth taking. He also has good quality sets, and ebony fingerboards.

Worth a call.
