How bad can a refinish touch up be

Yes, we all have these days, but I think that we also try to let our jobs leave our sheds like they are expected to, just as you manage to get them back to the customer.

Back to the Cello... I imagine that something like this might have happened.

Looks like he's hit it with a Makita belt sander by the size of the bare patch that's got the pink primer slopped onto it

How can you tell that it was a Makita?

You've caught me out Martyn, i'm guilty of assuming that a Makita belt sander was used on that cello, i assumed that it was a Makita because i have a Makita belt sander and that's what i use to strip varnish off cello's when i'm doing some fine touchup work.

Well, the customer finally gave me the go ahead yesterday.

So I removed the crap finish and look no sealer used, it also looks like they used a filler on the crack, the stain has soaked all the way through. Man I hate fixing stuff ups...

Told the customer I cant fix the crack any better unless I chisel the damage out and splice a new piece in, hopefully they will reply monday and I can get it out of the shop on tuesday

Its okay....

I matched the colour with the sides, the back was a bit lighter, I personally would have liked to have sealed sanded / seal scrape / seal sand and then put the finish on, then wet sand and apply another coat, but the customer was not willing to pay for this. So it was more of a case sel once only sand and lacquer and put it out the door

Well... What's wrong with this? I thought that's how saxophones do look like, don't they? Nothing to assemble there. Just glue it as is onto a white particleboard, and presto! Another piece of art to hang on the wall!

Seriously, that sax looks really good because this is just too hilarious. I think I even had to laugh if I would be the one asked to put it together . However, the flute would make me angry. There are things in this world I just don't understand.

Steve ,, the thing about the sax job is that although your customer will probably go away very happy with your work and the sax will go on to play many a sweet tune, with what you've been given to work with the instrument can only be improved, hey?

Ill try and dig up a couple of old pictures I had, 1st and best was a customer forgot to put there sax in the boot of there car and reversed over it, I was handed a flat case which had a 10,000 dollar sax inside it (flattened of course), please make it go again.

The other good one was a flute which a young boy decided he would use his sisters flute for sword fighting, very messy
