Mylar or paper when buying a plan?
I want to buy a plan that gets offered as full-scale technical drawing printed on mylar or paper. I know what paper is, and I suppose that the mylar version must be transparent and... what else?
How it is to handle? Is it brittle or does it get so when aging? What about color fading compared to paper?

Duno....I like writing all over my plans so paper would be the go for me. I also love the look of a well used paper plan with great gobs of hide glue and bits chopped out of it where Ive been short on scrap paper for a shopping list. Mylar I guess would be handy for transferring brace layout directly onto a soundboard etc.charangohabsburg wrote:I want to buy a plan that gets offered as full-scale technical drawing printed on mylar or paper. Draughting/engineering plans are drawn on Mylar, it's that frosted type that you can't see through but a light when behind it will show through. They are usually used to draw the master plan then production drawings can be copied from them onto paper. They are designed to last (doesn't tear like paper, infact it doesn't tear at all!) & archived into drawers e.t.c, well looked after and the plans will still be as clear as a bell in 50 years time.
For what you intend it for I would go with a paper copy, draughting Mylar doesn't go very well in the workshop/shed....it gets dirty very easily.

I've got a few mylar plans and use them as a master that I get copies made from on paper so I can do whatever I want with them.

Nick is on the money and it has been too many years since I last used it, but fwiw however, I only drew with ink as pencils especially the softer grades smudged (as you lean repeatedly over larger areas) and you can end up with a disgusting mess. It remains stable and humidity doesn't affect it like it does the cellulose fibres in paper.

Thank's everyone for your valuable input! That made my decision easy.
I went now for the option to drop some really big, nice hide glue globs on a rustic paper copy of the Mylar version of this one.

Nick, I'm affraid I will not start this year with that build.
But of course, once doing it I'll post two or three pictures.
