Hey all!! i'm considering using Timbermate as a grain filler on an archtop with blackwood b/s sitka top. In the past i've used West's epoxy which is good but with an archtop it is difficult to blade off, which means lots of sanding to get back to bare timber. Timbermate is much easier to sand but waterbased, and when using it to grainfill the pecentage of water to filler is much higher, should i seal with shellac first? Also i've never used grainfill on spruce before, do many of you deem it nessecary to grainfill spruce?
Thanks for any enlightenment!!!!
Rod.

Re: Grain filler
Spruce is a softwood, no grain to fill. I use Timbermate straight onto the bare wood, you can dampen the wood first, dry it and give it a light fine sharp sand before filling.
