Carbon Fibre

Could Someone please give me the rundown on Carbon Fibre Rods For use in necks,such as lengths,diameter,Positioning,suppliers and anything else that you think I should know.

I use 1/8" x 3/8" rods in all my instruments. In guitars they get one on each side of the truss rod. In ukes it's one up the centre. They extend into the head stock so strengthen the area through the nut. In all reality something that large is overkill for a uke, but I don't worry about it, and I only have to stock one size.

Probably not applicable but I use the 1/4 x 0.200" stuff StewMac sells but only in my bass necks (the 24" long stuff & 2 of them) & run them parallel with the taper of the neck. My six stringers I usually like to laminate up the neck (even if it's all the same timber I'll still glue at least two bits together) so feel that they're fairly strong & stable as is, touch wood ( ) I haven't had a neck warp on me so far. But that's just how I do things, I'm not advocating not putting CF in, it's probably good insurance if you are at all worried.

I use LMI poltruded rods ,one epoxied into the other, on my eubs. Probably overkill but I rest easy at night. This also allows for a slightly thinner neck as well as moving the heel beyond d or e position if requested.
