Worth the Trouble

This is not very exciting I know but I thought that I would post a couple of pics for others to see. I dont like making jigs etc but sometimes you may have noticed you have to! I had been looking for these veneer screws in AUS for a while and Mcjings in Sydney had them for less than a tenner each so I bough 5 of them. One made it into my bender to replace the threaded rod that was collapsing, the threaded rod is just not HD enough but these screws are very HD. Anyway I decided to knock up a couple of little presses that have become very useful. It is just a block with an overhead frame that is joined with a dry dovetail to be able to fit the screw into it. Pretty simple and quick to make. At least it frees up a hand to hold a stacked heel to stop it from sliding around instead of having to try to hold the clamp and do it up as well as keep the alignment on the heel with slippery glue on it:) I have also found it useful for gluing fingerboards on and headplates. It was easy to make and was definitely worth the trouble so now I can get back to making guitars I hope somebody finds this useful.

Heavy duty clamp, heavy duty wood and dovetail joints. I like that jig. It seems to be very useful and simple. Great design.

Hi Nick, The wood actually came from a 14 x 3 inch beam offcut that I had saved for 10 years. The beam went into a house and there was about 2 foot left so I snaffled it. It was a common or garden eucalypt but the colour was indeed very nice. Should I french polish them?:)

Oh, I forgot to ask why those titebond drops are running upwards... OK, maybe it's because it's because you live in Down Under? Does this happen to someone else of you guys?

Well Spotted Markus, yes of course thats the reason....sometimes it can be pretty inconvenient living upside down!
