Concert Uke Neck Query
Concert Uke Neck Query
Continuing the current run of Uke based questions, I thought I'd throw this one into the mix.
Is there any value in installing a carbon fibre rod in a Concert Uke neck?
Cheers

Re: Concert Uke Neck Query
it's one of those depends situations Craig. I'm yet to put CF in any uke neck. I can understand why you might for a bit of cheap insurance. I guess I'm just a little too cheap
. I'd like to try some nice light WRC necks. That is once I get around to ordering some CF

Re: Concert Uke Neck Query
I now put CF in all the necks in my instruments. Even the soprano that I'm building right at the moment.
My observations in my instruments have been that making the neck stiffer seems to improve tone and volume throughout the fret board, plus it's pretty cheap insurance. I buy it in 24" lengths so it's less than a couple of bucks for a uke neck.

Re: Concert Uke Neck Query
Thanks guys.
Allen, do you use 1/4" rods or 3/8" ?
(I assume that anything greater would be too much for the small uke neck)

Re: Concert Uke Neck Query
IMO there is no down-side to installing CF in any instrument neck, esp if you like a more even tone and greater volume and sustain.
And for a uke you wouldn't need much at all. I use a single 1/4 x 3/8 rod in my DB necks and it's plenty.

Re: Concert Uke Neck Query
I use 1/8 x 3/8 rods oriented so that I route a 1/8 slot and install like a truss rod. I run them through under the nut and into the peg head.
Re: Concert Uke Neck Query
Thanks Allen,
I considered using 1/8 x 3/8 as it has heaps more stiffness (using the cube rule).
But when I looked at the neck thickness at the nut being 7/16 I decided that I needed more than 1/16 room for error.
So at 11pm last night I ordered the 1/4" stuff
And thanks all for your input.

Where are you guys getting CF from. I know Allen for one can sniff out a bargain from 10,000miles away.
Re: Concert Uke Neck Query
I was already making up a Stewmac order when I thought of it, so I just added a couple of rods.
