What would be a good thickness for a Tassie Blackwood Back on a Martin acoustic? I just measured the top thickness of a Suzuki factory model (ply with lacquer and it was 2.99mm- 3.00mm) Should i stick with this thickness for the lutz spruce top? around 2.90mm-2.95mm? It will have the standard X Bracing as in the Cumpiano book (of doom)

Re: Thickness Advice
What size Martin?
Re: Thickness Advice
Stuart, in the tutorial section there is a sticky for Robbie O'Brien's videos. Have a look at the top thicknessing one. It is a good beginning point for understanding the top and how it works.

Re: Thickness Advice
If it's Shane Neifers Lutz I would take a fraction thinner on an OM. Depending on the piece of wood maybe 2.75mm.
As far as the back is concerned it depends on whether you want a guitar with lots of projection or whether you want to envelope the player in sound. If you want it to project you'll want a thicker back. 2.3mm is about where I take mine to.
