It was good to be away from all the rain and have blue skies for a change, but I did miss the workshop.
It’s not often that I get to visit a capital city, thank god, but when I do I’ve got to check out the tool shops. I spent a bit of time and money at Carba-tec in Adelaide, and it was great to see and handle the tools one only sees in their catalogue.
I had a call from Martin who invited me down to his neck of the woods to see his workshop, and I jumped at the chance. We started at his local pub with lunch and a few beers and had a good talk about many things, one of which was what our current projects were at this time. I started going through my build list and got the reply I had expected when I got to….”and part of the way through two banjos”. I received the same comment as one sees from Martin in his posts when it’s relating to banjos.
Lunch out of the way and it was a short walk to the workshop along a tree lined road. I got the feeling that Martin could be his local council’s public enemy number one, the way he knows all the trees by name and has them earmarked for future projects should they show the slightest lean earthwards.
I suppose it would not surprise you to read that the first thing that hits you as you enter Martins workshop is the sight and smell of his tonewood stash. At the back of this is the work/more tonewood stash space, Martin I don’t know how you do the work you do in such a confined area. Through a side door was the machine shop shared with the car. I also had a chance to see the lute, very challenging work I thought, and all very well done with great attention to detail.
Thanks for the invite Martin, I really enjoyed the visit.
Anyway that’s it for now, except to post this photo taken not far from Martins workshop, Hmmmmm.
