Black Monkeypod

Post by JJ model » Tue Jan 25, 2011 10:26 am

Hi Folks,
Its still the beginning of year 2011 and I hope you guys having a great starting to this year!
Just to share a couple of pictures of my first encounter with a Black Monkeypod Top with some Tiger inlays ( From Andy Depaule ).
The Chinese Character mean ' Natural Gift'. The client wanted to have 2 tigers inlay bcos of his twin sons born to him in the year of the Tiger according to the chinese lunar calender.
The fretboard ( ME ) is reversed to show the strips.
Enjoy!

That is stunning .... fantastic detailing and overall design. I especially like the way the purfling line frames the cutaway and the armrest. I have always been a fan of those cutaways you do- but I bet they are a nightmare to get right ?

Truely inspiring work.

Is the top actually that black, or have you helped it out some JJ?

Do you think it has similar properties as your usual Monkeypod?

Thanks Folks!. The Top is monkeypod wood too but with a black stain, enough to darken it without covering all those monkey trails.
I normally don't offer the cutaway bevel on my OM but this is requested option.

Very pretty Jeff, interestingly I just stained a blackwood ukulele body black like that yesterday, just enough so you can still see the wood. Hesh would be almost proud.

Life is good when you are amongst the wood.
