playing guitar on a stand?
What's he got the guitar attached to? I've never seen anyone doing this to an acoustic before.

Re: playing guitar on a stand?
It's a support for the upper bout that sits on his knee. It's a replacement for a foot stand......ie it holds the guitar in a good playing position but without you having to have your knee raised on a foot stand.
I'd say the knee stand came from the same inventor as this device:

Maybe.

And maybe the inventor of "this device" was inspired

Who knows.

Re: playing guitar on a stand?
And maybe that last instrument is a prototype of Cooktown Ironwood and is too heavy for the poor wimpy guys leg ...

I am not sure that Cooktown ironwood would have been available when that lithograph was made so I am guessing African blackwood may have been the problem with weight.

You'd need a little rocking base to match his chair though

G'day Mathew,
I've seen Carlos Santana use one of these upright guitar stands on the Acadamy Awards recently. He also used one on a dvd I saw apparently so he could change from acoustic to electric guitar quickly and easily.
Cheers

James Hetfield uses a free standing electro/classical so he can switch to the classical bits in songs without taking his electric off. Went to see the boys in Sydney in November. Awesome guitarists and awesome show.

Re: playing guitar on a stand?
Others like to play two guitars simultaneously, just like this guy here. They also might want such a stand. It also doesn't surprise me that after having played two guitars simultaneously some will need... well, we already had this: go back to the second message of this threadDominic wrote: [...] so he can switch to the classical bits in songs without taking his electric off. BTW: I agree with sebastiaan56 that Aguado's axe is a La Prévotte.
