Wot is your favourite XMAS song?
make mine fifths........
Re: Wot is your favourite XMAS song?
What a cracker Sebastiaan, thanks for that.
I have really enjoyed the Tim Minchin stuff I have heard in the past but had not heard that one before now. Coincidental title for your post as I had posted a topic with the same title over at the OLF today but had hosted Paul Kelly's how to make gravy...tis a great aussie Xmas song as well.

Tim Minchin, what do you say...great stuff.
At risk of looking like a bit if a dag, this is my favourite Christmas song. I do like the song but have to admit I have a bit of a thing for Chrissie Hynde (excuse the little bit of drool at the corner of my mouth)

Feel free to turn up that Tele Chrissie.

Some great stuff there. Thanks for posting those.
This one has been my absolute favourite ever since I ever heard it. Not so appropriate in the tropical wet summer of North Queensland, but it sure does make me home sick for the White Christmas's of Canada.

OK, so the vocals may be a bit off tune, but this rendition of Winter Wonderland has some neat uke playing. Gotta love Honey-the-Reindeer's whistling towards the end ...

I like yours Jim, always had a bit of a soft spot for Chrissie Hind myself
I could never abide the Christmas songs they seem to traditionally thrash at this time every year (Snoopy's Christmas being top & far,far out in front of my list! I run from the room whenever I hear it).But I heard this song on the radio just recently & thought that it was a good take on a Christmas song.

Hey wadda ya know! the Youtube links seem to be up & running again. Fixed yours up for you Simon, you'd left the "&=related" bit on the end of the address, I think that only works for when you are linking to another site such as facebook e.t.c. that doesn't embed directly into the site. I'm not that 'techie' but I think that's the story anyway.

What a coincidence. I had just been trying to work out how to get Leon Redbone and Frosty the Snowman embedded in the post. I gave up, but there it was, just like magic. Leon Redbone has been a favourite of mine for years. Thanks Simonm.

Re: Wot is your favourite XMAS song?
Here's a rough youtube embedding tute I sent to Duh Padma by PM, it may help:
Hey Duh,
When embedding Youtube code it is important that the URL is a 'complete' AND 'direct' address.
Look at the first part of the link below. It includes the text htt://www.youtube.com/watch?v= this part gets the applet display window embedded in your browser to open and look for a video at youtube.com.... Now look at the last part, aESRsWltqtA
this part tells the embedded window which video of the millions that are hosted at Youtube.com it should open. If I was to highlight the link below and click the 'youtube' button, it would display perfectly because it is a 'direct' link that was found by searching for the video directly from 'Youtube.com.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aESRsWltqtA
youtu.be/
The problems start when you double click on an embedded video link based at a '3rd party website'. Doing this will take your browser direct to Youtube.com, but it will also create an 'indirect' link adding code to the end of the URL in your browsers address bar. This means if I were to now try to cut and paste the URL from there and embed it in yet another 3rd party site like a guitar building forum, it will no longer work.
Look at the URL below and you will see what I mean. Its the very same link as the one above in every way except that the text which I have coloured red had been added to that address bar when I double clicked on the properly embedded video above and it took me to Youtube.com. For the link below to now work properly, 'all' of that text now coloured red must be deleted.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aESRsWltqtA&feature=player_embedded
Clear as mud
Cheers
Kim
